“Liam, Bethany, and I shoveled it by hand yesterday,” he said. “We went over every square inch, looking for evidence. There was nothing there.”

“Still, doesn’t it feel odd to park here?” she asked. “I mean, someone died here.”

“You can park out front if you’d rather,” he said. “I just thought you might want to come in… the generator has been running all night, and we should have plenty of hot water.”

That got her attention like nothing else had. A hot shower. It seemed almost too good to be true. Granted, the shower in the sheriff’s department was located in the holding cells and was meant for the use of the occasional prisoners who had to stay longer than a night, but Ellie wasn’t about to complain.
